How to get Mental Health Treatment with Ahead

Navigating mental health treatment might seem complex. Here at Ahead, we make the process seamless and simple to navigate. Our goal is to make treatment accessible and efficient for everyone–regardless of where you are in your mental health journey.

When it comes to navigating telehealth and mental health for the first time, it’s important to feel at ease. We want you to know exactly what to expect when getting started with Ahead.

How our process works

1. Complete Ahead’s short online questionnaire to see if we can support your specific needs.

Follow the prompts to create an account and within 10 minutes, we’ll assess whether Ahead is the right fit for you. With this questionnaire, we’ll get a better understanding of your medical history and mental health concerns.

2. Schedule a judgment-free, full-length evaluation with a provider.

If we can support your specific needs, we’ll help you book a secure online video visit. You will be able to see providers who are available and select a time that works with your schedule.

Before confirming your reservation, you will need to upload an image of your government-issued picture ID. You can also upload an image of your prescription card if you’d like to use it towards medication costs.

Once you have set up your evaluation, you will receive an email confirmation. You can also login to the patient portal to see any upcoming appointments. Ahead’s care team will also send you a link to a pre-appointment questionnaire. This is a series of questions you answer online to help your provider learn more about your health ahead of your first visit.

3. Get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Starting with your first visit, your provider will get to know your full story. They will work with you to determine if a diagnosis and treatment is right for you. Whether you have or suspect ADHD or other mental health concerns, your provider’s ears are open.

When it comes to treating ADHD and other mental health conditions, medication can be effective for many patients. But at Ahead, we also provide non-medication treatment options to improve your health. Your provider will work with you to select the treatment option that is best for your unique needs.

4. Get your prescription delivered for free to your doorstep.

If your provider gives you a prescription, you may choose free delivery through Ahead. Let your provider know you would like this option at your first visit. Or, send your care team a message in the patient portal.

You can expect your medications to arrive in discreet packaging in 2-3 business days. This means you can skip the trips to the pharmacy each month. 

The best part? Your care team is in direct contact with our partner pharmacy and your insurance. This means we can take care of any issues that arise with your medication for you. For example, working with your insurance company for prior authorizations. Leave the logistics to us so you can focus on moving forward.

If you prefer, you can also choose a local pharmacy of your choice to pick up your medication yourself.

5. Enjoy follow-ups online.

Ongoing care with your mental health provider is a crucial part of your care. And with Ahead, these follow-ups are all done from the convenience and comfort of your home. At the end of each visit, you and your provider will look forward to finding a date and time for your next visit. If you aren’t sure about your availability, that’s okay. The care team will reach out to you after your visit to set up the next appointment.

Typically, you can expect to see your provider for online visits once a month for at least the first few months. This ensures your provider can check in on your progress and fine-tune your treatment plan. Once your treatment plan is optimized, your provider will review options with you and may change your visit frequency. This might be once every two or three months instead of monthly.

In-between visits, your care team is always just a chat or phone call away. If you have any questions or concerns, you can send a message through the patient portal any time of day. A medical assistant (MA) will reply to you within one business day. 

Customer service specialists are also available to you via phone, email, and on Ahead’s online helpdesk. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
