Expanding Mental Healthcare:
Ahead’s Primary Care Provider Membership
At Ahead, access to mental healthcare is one of our core concerns. The quality of our care only matters if the people who need care are able to access it. That means that not only does treatment need to be affordable and convenient, it needs to be flexible to meet the needs of our patients. That’s why we solicit feedback from our patients so we can continue to evolve our offerings to meet their unique needs.
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that can present in a variety of ways. For those with co-morbid conditions, in-depth treatment with a specialist may be needed. Other patients may have manageable symptoms and find they are able to fully function with a much lighter touch from their providers. We realized that we could better serve our patients by developing two paths to treatment.
Patients can now access treatment through our team of expert psychiatric specialists or through our new Primary Care Provider membership. By launching this cost-saving membership option, we hope to give more patients access to the treatment that they need.
How an ahead primary care provider membership works
With an Ahead membership, you are paired with a primary care provider (PCP), such as a physician or family nurse practitioner, from our network of qualified providers for your ongoing care. This path to treatment is best for patients who prefer shorter follow-ups and have mild to moderate mental health concerns.
The first month of Ahead’s membership, including the initial evaluation, costs $150. For most patients, this includes a 45-minute evaluation with a therapist and then a 15-minute follow-up with your PCP to review your diagnosis. Your therapist and PCP will work together to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique needs.
After the initial evaluation, members pay just $75 per month for ongoing care, which includes 15-minute follow-up visits with their PCP every 1-3 months according to their treatment plan, unlimited messaging to their care team, and prescription delivery.

Ahead Care with Psychiatric Specialists
If you feel like you need additional support, Ahead’s team of psychiatric specialists might be right for you. This path to treatment is best for patients who want more time with their provider or who have more complex mental health concerns.
On this path to treatment, patients are paired with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner for their evaluation and ongoing care. During your first visit, you will have a 50-minute evaluation with your provider to better understand your symptoms and how they are impacting your life.
After your initial appointment, most patients will have 25-minute follow-ups every 1-3 months with their specialist. Patients on this path pay only for the appointments they need. The initial evaluation costs $225 while follow-up visits start at $160.

The Right Mental Healthcare Plan
No matter which path is right for you, every Ahead patient receives a custom-tailored treatment plan that their providers design based on their unique symptoms, needs, and circumstances.
We want you to feel supported throughout your treatment so we strive to make every step of the process as easy to navigate as possible. Every patient is eligible for free home delivery of their medication, if prescribed by their provider. In between sessions, patients have access to unlimited messaging with their care team through the patient portal and can contact our customer support team any time.
Primary Care Provider Membership Expands Access to Care
We believe that access to mental healthcare is more important now than ever as rates of mental health conditions have surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the increasing and urgent need for mental health care, people are struggling to access the care they need.
Ahead Co-Founder Andy Rink explained, “Ahead’s new membership is confronting those challenges head-on by expanding services to new states and making mental healthcare more affordable for consumers. While we still have a lot of work to do, we’re confident this expansion will positively impact mental health treatment nationwide.”
Through the expansion, Ahead’s services will be available in 12 new states, dramatically expanding access to affordable care in areas that need it most. This includes rural areas where mental health services are not readily available, as well as cities where demand far exceeds provider availability.
